Volunteers
|
"How can I volunteer?" is one of the questions we hear most often at GOTR Manhattan. We'd love to answer that question here and invite you to join our team! While Coaches work directly with the girls on a weekly basis over 12-week spring and fall seasons and Running Buddies encourage and support the girls through their end-of-season 5k events, we accomplish our behind-the-scenes work through our 6 volunteer committees explained below. If you are interested in joining one of our committees, please email the Committee Leader directly.

COACHING GOTRM Coach Director: Kristy Zoshak
Girls on the Run is recruiting enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer coaches!
Inspire a Girl. Coach this Spring! Girls on the Run will provide you with materials and program curriculum, and will train you to be an inspiring and impactful coach.
All coaches are required to attend Coach Training and submit to a background check. Trainings will be held in late February. Click here for application: Coach Application
Practices are scheduled two non-consecutive days each week for 1hr 15mins at a time. Prep time takes about two to three hours per week.
You do not need to be a runner or a competitive athlete to be a successful coach. You will serve as a role model for girls by showing up prepared and on time, listening attentively, and by having a positive demeanor and outlook by leading a healthy lifestyle! You will encourage the girls and coach them on proper stretching, explore emotional issues faced by girls their age, and discuss the importance of nutrition and physical activity (don't worry, this will all be covered in coach training!).
We do recommend CPR and First Aid certification for ALL of our coaches (it is a requirement for Head Coaches) and if you're interested we will have a group class available at the end of February.
Coaching locations: Various locations throughout NYC & Brooklyn.
Spring season dates: Begins Wk of March 14th - Spring 5K will be held June 6th

The exception to this rule is fathers and legal guardians who would like to run with their daughter(s). Running buddies complete the 5K race with a girl who is enrolled in our program. It is expected that running buddies will encourage the girls throughout the race in positive and meaningful ways, and have the ability to walk or run a 5K on pace with the girls.
- Show up on race day prepared to support a program participant during the race by running alongside her.
- Potentially attend a training/information session prior to race day.
- Be prepared to offer your time and assistance in ANY way needed on race-day. At times, we have more volunteers than program participants. IF this occurs, we will set up a cheering section at the mid-point of the race course and would appreciate you being open to supporting the girls by serving as a cheerleader!
If interested in being a running buddy, please send an email to the Running Buddy Manager or follow this link to register: http://www.active.com/running/new-york-city-ny/new-balance-girls-on-the-run-manhattan-spring-race-2010.
